Malabar Man Heads to Italy to Stand Stud
Malabar Man & trainer Jimmy Takter
1997 Horse of the Year and Hambletonian winner Malabar Man, 11, is heading to Italy to stand stud, according to his owner Mal Burroughs.
"The vets from Italy are here to collect semen samples from him," Burroughs said. "They have all his records in the past from the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton and the farms that he's stood at. Malabar Man has never been the best breeder in the world, but he's been a very adaptable horse. They say you're not supposed to move stallions around, but he adapts quickly and is not a high strung horse. If all goes well, he's off to Italy."
This would be the fourth stop for Malabar Man in his stud career, which began in 1998 at Perretti Farms in Cream Ridge, New Jersey. After four years, he was switched to Southwind Farms in Pennington, New Jersey and then spent last year at Winbak Farms in New York.
