Make It Brief Named U.S.Trotting Association Horse of the Month
Odds On Racing’s Make It Brief, who captured a pair of $40,000 Opens at The Meadowlands in December, has been named USTA Horse of the Month.
The four-year-old son of Camluck, out of the Abercrombie mare Lingerie, made his debut for his new owners (Robin Schadt and Dana Parham) in December at the Meadowlands. Schadt trains Make It Brief, who was driven in both of his starts by John Campbell. He closed out his 2004 campaign with seven wins in 21 starts, with earnings of $99,521.
Make It Brief began his winning ways on December 4 in the $40,000 Open at The Meadowlands. Starting from post position five, Campbell took him right to the lead and he was never caught, pacing fractions of :27, :55.1, 1:23.2 and 1:50.1. Make It Brief drew off in the lane for a three and three-quarter length score over Life Source, with The Globe picking up the show dough.
In the $40,000 Open on December 11 at The Big M, Make It Brief drew the two hole and got away third through an opening quarter of :27.1. Campbell brushed him to the lead at the :54.2 half-mile marker and they were still in command at the 1:22.4 three-quarter pole. Make It Brief opened up a one and three-quarter length margin by the top of the stretch, but then had to hold off a valiant charge by Life Source to hit the wire a neck in front in a time of 1:49.2. St George Island finished third.
Make It Brief's 1:49.2 was the fastest December mile ever. His sire Camluck (who trained with Robert McIntosh) was a USTA Horse Of The Month in October 1992.
As well, Robin Schadt is only the third FEMALE TRAINER in the history of harness racing to have a USTA Horse of the Month. The other two were Linda Wallis (Burning Point-December 2003) and Lori Wade (Billyjojimbob-April 1992).
