Friday, March 24, 2006
Mark MacDonald notched his 3,000th career win Friday evening at Woodbine. MacDonald guided Three Kilo to a 1:52.4 win for trainer Casie Coleman and in doing so he became the youngest driver in the history of the sport to reach the 3,000-win plateau. In 2005 the 27-year-old reinsman picked up his first O'Brien Award as Canada's Driver of the Year in addition to being named the USHWA's Rising Star of the Year. MacDonald, a winner of over $25 million in earnings, established a new Canadian single season win record in 2005 thanks to his 692 trips to various winners' circles across the nation and he set World Records with American Ideal.
