Mark MacDonald Named USHWA Rising Star
January 2, 2006
Prince Edward Island native Mark MacDonald has been picked as the sport’s Rising Star by the U.S. Harness Writers' Association. MacDonald, 27, made his presence well-known on the Toronto circuit, as well as at Western Fair Raceway and Flamboro Downs. MacDonald was among the top-three drivers in North America with more than 680 victories in 2005.
MacDonald also entered the record books in 2005 while behind the fast 3-year-old American Ideal. No, make that the fastest 3-year-old, because when American Ideal and MacDonald won at Lexington, in 1:474, on the Grand Circuit, the time was the fastest ever posted by a sophomore in harness racing history. MacDonald will be honored at the Night of Stars banquet on February 8 at the Las Vegas Bellagio during the Horse Racing Congress.
