Lyell Creek to Retire

Lyell Creek, the 2003 Su Mac Lad winner, will make his final career start in Friday night's NZ$100,000 Rowe Cup at Auckland, New Zealand's Alexandra Park. The 12-year-old goes into the Rowe Cup with 56 wins and nearly NZ$3 million in earnings. He raced in North America from June of 2001 through July of 2003. John Campbell was in the bike when Lyell Creek took a mark of 1:52.2 in an open trot at the Meadowlands on April 12, 2002 and Ron Pierce guided him to victory in the $132,420 Su Mac Lad Final on March 30, 2003.
