Lou Annie Scores For Miller

February 25, 2005

James Rowney’s Lou Annie took a 1:55.1 front stepping victory in Friday night’s $15,250 Shady Veil Handicap Pace.

Sent off as the 1-2 favorite from the six-slot, Lou Annie held off the fast-closing Joliet Jean (Sam Widger), and Nannywithafanny  for third, another length behind.

“I used Lou Annie pretty strong early on, but she’s an awful gritty mare,” said Miller after the race. “She’s the type of horse that really likes to be challenged by other horses racing at her. She’s not as good coming from off the pace, and really likes it when she can hold off other horses.”

The victory was Lou Annie’s second in a row on the Chicago circuit and her third in six season starts for Rowney, who owns and trains the six-year-old Illinois bred mare. The daughter of Doc’s Hop has banked $23,825 in the young season, bringing her lifetime earnings to $366,333 for her Marseilles, IL owner.
