Mr Feelgood Takes Little Brown Jug

Thursday, September 21, 2006

Mr Feelgood captured the Little Brown Jug in a world record time of 1:50.3 Thursday at the Delaware County Fair grounds before a crowd of 52,087. It was the first Little Brown Jug victory for driver Mark MacDonald and trainer Jimmy Takter. Mr Feelgood had won his first heat in wire-to-wire fashion in 1:50.

The son of Grinfromeartoear, out of the Jate Lobell mare Best Of Memories is owned by Canamerica Capital Corp., Diversity Stable, and Lindy Farms of Connecticut. Cactus Creek was second by one and three-quarter lengths with Armbro Deuce third. The Jug final was the eighth win in 16 starts this year for Mr Feelgood.

“A half-mile track’s a speed track and I drew six, so I had to have him on his toes pretty good to try and cross over before the first turn,” said MacDonald after the winning heat. “When I did that, he kind of got a little worked up, so I had to let him roll on a little bit. He was doing it really comfortably. He was just floating over the track nice and I never had to use him. I just had to keep his attention a little bit down the lane, but he still felt really strong.

“My plan was I was leaving,” continued MacDonald. “That was Plan A and Plan A only with this horse. He’s a speed horse. He loves the front end and that’s why we brought him to Delaware. He loves to roll. Sometimes on a big track horses pick him up late, but here with a short stretch you can kind of get away on them and it worked out perfect.”

Cactus Creek had won the second elim in 1:50.3 for driver Mike Lachance and trainer Erv Miller. Texas Shootout captured the third elimination after a brutal speed duel ensued with Armbro Deuce and Jereme's Jet, winning in 1:50.4 with driver Dave Palone and trainer Mikey Burke. Armbro Deuce was second and Jereme's Jet hung on for third.

Eternity's Delight Wins The Jugette
David Miller steered Eternity’s Delight to a straight-heats victory in the $252,000 Jugette at the Delaware, Ohio County Fair on Wednesday afternoon for owners Arlene and Jules Siegel, giving them their second consecutive Jugette victory (Just Wait Kate won in 2005, the 35th edition). The daughter of Bettor’s Delight paced the mile in 1:53.2. Art’s Temptress (George Brennan) finished second, with Western Gallie third.

“We were able to get into a hole (early),” driver David Miller said. “I felt good at the half, and my filly was fresh there. I never asked her for more, and she paced right to the wire.”
