"She was rugged…unafraid…could throw a punch…could take a punch!"

One of the "gamest" gals ever to set foot on a racetrack was Shady Daisy, a daughter of Falcon Seelster.   "Daisy" went into the "ring" 142 times during an illustrious career that lasted six grueling seasons and she managed 53 victories and over $1,800,000 in bounty.

She travelled all over creation—two dozen different racetracks of all sizes—and gutted her way to "Pacing Mare of the Year" honors three straight years (1992-94).

Six for 14 in the win column at age two, her initial racing season in 1990 produced $105,377 to go along with a Springfield (Ill.) mark of 1:54.4. At three, Shady Daisy won 15 times in 27 starts and over $450,000 while lowering her race mark to 1:51 over The Red Mile.

Over the next three years—1992 through 1994—the rugged mare won 29 times, including two Breeders Crown events, the first in 1992 over the, then, five-eighths mile Mohawk Raceway oval in 1:53.2f and, in 1994, over the half mile Freehold Raceway track in 1:53.1h, a stakes and world record over a half mile oval. She was just a scant "hd" away from a 1993 Breeders Crown win at Mohawk, as well.

During those years, she banked $1,206,495 and equaled her mark of 1:51 at The Meadowlands in late May of 1992, pacing her final three-quarters in an astonishing 1:21.3! Yet another 1992 highlight was at Freehold Raceway when she out-gutted Cambest in an invitational handicap pace.

In her final season, 1995, Shady Daisy won three times and $43,142, pushing her lifetime bankroll to $1,807,755.
