Real Desire

Real Desire won 25 of his 40 lifetime starts, amassed $3.2 million in purse earnings, and took a record as a four-year-old of 1:48.2 in the United States Pacing Championship at The Meadowlands on August 3, 2002. 

As a two-year-old Real Desire was a winner in the Nassagaweya Stakes, the Champlain Stakes, the Kentucky Sires Stakes elim & final, the Breeders Crown elim and Governor’s Cup elim,  second in Governor’s Cup final and third in Breeders Crown Final.  He was a World Champion at two and was voted the 2002 Horse Of The Year.

At 3, Real Desire was a winner in the Breeders Crown Final, the Meadowlands Pace elim & final, the Hoosier Cup elim & final, the Oliver Wendell Holmes Pace and Bluegrass Stakes;  second in Little Brown Jug heat & final, the Tattersalls Pace,the Windy City Pace and Simcoe Stakes.  

As one of the sport's top older pacers, Real Desire secured two O'Brien Awards, one as the country's top pacing horse and the other as Horse of the Year. The bay son of Life Sign paced to a stunning 1:49 4/5 victory in Canada's oldest stakes event, the Canadian Pacing Derby, during his $1.2 million dollar season. He was also a winner in the Breeders Crown and U.S. Pacing Championship, and was second in Wm. Haughton Memorial Final.

Real Desire's first crop is racing as 2-year-olds in 2006, and through late October he has sired ten 1:55 winners and 29 in 2:00, with progeny earnings approaching $1-million.

His stakes stars are led by the year's fastest 2YO pacing filly, the Breeders Crown elim winner and Mohawk track record-holder Cabana Fever p,2,1:51.4 ($300,671), now with six major stakes wins in eight career starts.

Other major stakes winners include Champlain Stakes winner Running Book p,2,1:52.2, Smullin winner Mattdultery p,2,1:53.1, Real Girl p,2,1:53.4, Cue The Paige p,2,1:54.2 and All Due Respect p,2,1:54. Like their sire, these 2-year-olds have all displayed a tremendous closing kick (last quarters of :26, :26.3, :26.4, etc.) to accompany their quick gate speed.
