Darlin's Delight Takes Lady Liberty Final

June 1, 2007

Darlin's Delight
accelerated to the lead on the final turn and flew home to win the $225,000 Lady Liberty Final in 1:49.1 on Friday night at the Meadowlands. Runner-up Street Dancer was towed into the race by Darlin's Delight, but could not outsprint her in the stretch. Marnie Hall raced third-over and held onto the show spot.

Driven by Yannick Gingras, Darlin's Delight picked up her second win in three starts this season.

"She proved again tonight that she is one of the best," Gingras said. "I just wanted to stay out of trouble, not get into a speed duel. I thought she was the best horse in the race - she proved that. I just tried to make it as easy I could on her. She's got a quick turn of speed. She can pace the turn just as good as she can pace the straightaway, so I figured I would get the jump on them. I felt pretty good on the last turn. She was grabbing into me. I turned her loose and she just kicked right in. I tapped the wheel disc a little bit and showed her the whip, but she doesn't even really respond to the whip because she gives me everything she's got."

Campaigned by trainer Jeff Stafford, Darlin's Delight was voted the 2006 Three-Year-Old Filly Pace of the Year. She won 10 of 15 races, including the Fan Hanover, Lady Maud, Rose Of Tralee, New York Sire Stakes championship, and James Lynch Memorial. She was second in the Breeders Crown. Lifetime, she has 21 wins in 32 starts and earnings of $1.5 million. The daughter of Bettor's Delight-Town Pro is owned by White Birch Farm of Allentown, New Jersey.
