Trainer-Driver Julie Miller

Petite and pretty, Julie Miller exemplifies the new standard of female trainers. Born into a harness racing family in November of 1972, Julie grew up watching her father, Owen Julius train and drive his horses at the Iowa County Fairs near their home in Iowa City.

Over the years Julie worked with her father, gaining experience until she began to train and drive on her own, in the early 1990s. To date she's scored 22 driving wins and $42,066 sitting behind pacers and trotters, and in the past few years has turned the lines  over to her husband, catch-driver Andy Miller in order to concentrate on training the couple's stable of horses, housed at Balmoral Park in Crete, Illinois

Julie has trained the winner's of over $1.4 million, with her best year coming in 1999, when she harnessed 25 winners from 166 starts, including 23 seconds and 20 thirds for $176,724 in seasonal earnings.
