Tell All wins the Little Brown Jug Tell All & Jody Jamieson
September 20, 2007
Tell All spoke loudly, then roared, before a crowd of 51,411 on a steamy Thursday afternoon at Delaware, Ohio. The sophomore son of Real Desire won the 62nd edition of the $326,400 Little Brown Jug after capturing his $76,800 elim in a national season’s mark of 1:50.3.
"This is a hardplace to get to," a relieved Blair Burgess said. "You’ve got be damn good to get here."
Burgess conditions Tell All for My Desire Stable of Versailles, Ky. He had scored a second-place finish with Tell All’s sire in the 2001 edition of the Jug behind Bettor’s Delight.
"I give all the credit in the world to Jody (Jamieson)," Burgess added. "It was a great drive, and I was really glad to have the rail in the final because I believe that psychologically for the horse it makes a difference. If the horse doesn’t have to try to rush out of there from the two or three hole and fight another horse for the lead, I think he’s mentally better." The win, Tell All’s tenth of the season in 18 starts, also gave Jamieson his first Jug victory. The 2006 Rising Star award winner said he had a few pre-race jitters.
"I was more nervous before the elimination than I was for the final," Jamieson noted. "I just wanted to make the final and have a good post in it. Once I got on the racetrack for the final, I was confident. Tell All has a great big heart--he's bailed me out on a few first-up trips and did so again today by scooting out of the gate as quickly as he did. He's so aggressive and never stops."
Tell All endured a first-over trip in his elim and held off a three-wide move by Artists View to win in 1:50.3, after Southwind Lynx and Fresh Deck had battled through a :26 first quarter. Jamieson said Tell All’s tendency to get cranked around the turns did not concern him. "He’s always going sideways," Jamieson remarked. "He did that at The Meadowlands and Mohawk. He does it, he lives with it. He never hits anywhere either. He just paces effortlessly despite the way he travels."
Always A Virgin won the second Jug elim for driver Brian Sears in 1:51.1, but this pair could only manage to a third-place finish in the Jug final, behind the hard-trying Hot Rod Mindale (David Miller) who was first-over throughout the mile.
"I didn't want to be in Brian's spot in the final," Jamieson said. "Hot Rod Mindale gave me a run to the wire, but I was confident at the quarter pole that I was going to win since I got away with such an easy first fraction (:27). This horse was just incredible today.
Tell All pushed his career earnings to $1,337,787 with his Jug victory.
"I’ve brought 12 horses over the years to race in the Jug," said Burgess. "It’s nice to finally win one."
A total of $3,536,881.18 was bet on the Jug.
