Jag de Bellouet Favored in 2005 Prix d'Amerique at Vincennes

Jag de Bellouet, a winner of 11 races in a row, is considered to be the heavy favorite in the 84th edition of the Prix d'Amerique which will be contestsed at Vincennes Racecourse in Paris, France on Sunday, January 30.

On January 2, Jag de Bellouet, driven by Christophe Gallier, won the Prix de Bourgogne in wire-to-wire fashion in a mile rate of 1:55.2, over one and 5/16 miles-- a new race record.  Nicknamed "Le Cannibale" by Paris Turf, the French version of the Daily Racing Form, Jag de Bellouet finished third in last year’s edition of the Prix d’Amerique, and will start in the world’s richest trotting race under saddle, the Prix de Cornulier, on Sunday, January 23.

Eighteen horses will vie in the Prix d'Amerique, which is raced at one & five-eighths (1 & 5/8) miles--2,700 meters. No starting gate is used for this event, which attracts up to 40,000 spectators.
