IHRC Gets Strict on Steroids

October 3, 2007

The Indiana Horse Racing Commission is putting stricter regulations on the use of steroids for horses competing at the state's horse tracks. Commission member Doug Grimes says adoption of the rule doesn't make steroids illegal, but simply regulates their use.

The rule limits the concentration of certain anabolic steroids in horses on days that they race. Few other states regulate steroids in race horses. Opponents of the new rule says it will make it difficult for Indiana horses to race in other
states. The new rule takes effect with the 2008 racing season.
