Horse Help for One & All
May 7, 2007
Pacing champ Lis Mara and owners MJG Racing (Mike Gulotta) and Andy Willinger have teamed up to help horses in need.
The incredibly fast, award-winning pacer and his very generous owners are helping the Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF) introduce its new Owner’s Percentage Program.
The program encourages owners with horses racing in New Jersey to donate any percentage of their horses’ or stable winnings to the Foundation to help them continue their mission of caring for unwanted or non-competitive Standardbreds.
Gulotta and Willinger have pledged a percentage of all purse money won by Lis Mara this year to the Foundation.
“I believe that everyone who has benefited from racing owes it to the horses to give something back,” said Gulotta. “The Standardbred Retirement Foundation has been there for our sport’s horses for 18 years. They do fantastic work and have found homes for thousands of Standardbreds."
The Meadowlands and Freehold are the racetracks currently participating in the program.
SRF has completed over 2,000 adoptions, and is currently caring for 140 horses awaiting homes. For more information call 732-462-8773 , email Gen@srfmail.com or visit the website www.Adoptahorse.org
