One of the brightest superstars of the year is the 3-year-old filly See You At Peelers, who had a 21-race win streak going until it was snapped on August 29, 2011 in the $193,150 Nadia Lobell Stake. The race was won by Idyllic, who came into the race with a 0-for-5 record against See You At Peelers.

Though See You At Peelers had been invincible during a career that included a win over males, this figured to be one of her tougher assignments. The race was packed with talented fillies and she drew post nine, a big disadvantage on a five-eighths mile track such as The Meadows.

Trainer Jimmy Takter said afterward that the fast pace and the post position did in his filly.

“It was a tough opening,” he said. “Marcus decided to leave out of there and the first quarter was very tough. He said he couldn’t relax her after they came by the first quarter. She was too fired up. The second quarter kind of killed her. Normally, she can relax. She went :53.1 to the half and, technically speaking, she went :52 to the half because she had the nine hole and had to leave hard into the turn.”

Takter said he was not that surprised by the defeat.

“I really am not stunned,” he said. “Every top filly in the country was in that race and she had to open up hard like she did. On top of it, she couldn’t relax after the first quarter. If he were able to rate her a little more on the backside and go :28 for that second quarter then I think she would have won. When you leave hard like that it’s tough to get them back and relax. She had never left that hard.”

Takter watched the race from Yonkers but was told by his staff that See You At Peelers seemed to be fine, physically.

“I have no doubt she will get right back on track,” he said.
