Lucky Jim was winless in nine starts as a sophomore, but finished second on four occasions and earned $47,600 nevertheless. This season, at age 4, he's blossomed into a tremendous money maker for the husband and wife driving and training team of Andy and Julie Miller.

"When we started training him, I never expected this to happen. You always hope for a horse like him, and I'm just grateful it's happening to me and Andy."

The Miller Stable, based at Gaitway Farm in Englishtown, N.J., took over the training of Lucky Jim following his 3-year-old season.

The gelding is unbeaten in 12 trips postward in 2009, and during May added two rich titles to his past performances. He began the month by winning a $40,000 Arthur J. Cutler Memorial elimination and the $200,000 Cutler Memorial final at The Meadowlands, and followed that with wins in a $40,000 Maxie Lee Memorial elimination and then the $250,000 Maxie Lee Memorial final at Harrah's Chester.

Lucky Jim leads all trotters in North America with $394,325 won this year, and is also the fastest trotter on the continent by virtue of his world record equaling 1:51.3 victory in March.

“He definitely had to prove himself to a lot of people,” Julie noted. “He’s proved himself to me, and how I feel about him matters more than what anybody else says about him. He’s matured from three to four and come into his own. Andy always says there’s more in the tank. Words can’t describe how happy I am with him.”
