2008 Breeders Crown champion added another feather to his cap when he captured the $1.5 million North America Cup on June 27 at Mohawk Raceway in Ontario, Canada.  The 3-year-old colt paced the mile in 1:48.1, a new stakes, track and Canadian record.

"He sure was (awesome). I wasn't worried about him," said winning driver Ron Pierce. "I was worried about myself. The trip was absolutely perfect. You couldn't have sat down before the race and drew a map of how you'd like the race to go and have it come out any better than that."

Pierce had won the North America Cup in 2006 Cup with Total Truth.

"The North America Cup to us is like the major race in harness racing," winning owner Jeff Snyder commented, "as far as were concerned, since we primarily have pacing colts. We love coming up here. We love the people. We love the track and we love the Canadian dollar."

Snyder, who had won previous Cups with Rocknroll Hanover in 2005, Red River Hanover in 2002 (in a then stakes record 1:48.4) and Cam’s Card Shark in 1994, said even after winning North America’s richest race four times, it’s still a thrill to follow a horse from yearling to champion.

“We spend a lot of time studying the sales catalogs; we spend enough money and we’ve been watching the races for 40 years, so I guess practice makes perfect,” he said. “The first 25 years, until Cam’s Card Shark, were losses, but this is one of the big thrills tonight. Ronnie drove him perfect.”

Well Said was a $240,000 yearling out of the Artsplace mare Must See p, 2, 1:52 ($487,122). She is a full sister to Glowing Report p, 1:49.2 ($1,992,269). Snyder said he picked out Well Said as a yearling.

“I remember Must See when Jerry Silverman trained him,” Snyder said. “I remember Glowing Report and he was just an awesome yearling. He’s got as much wicked speed as any horse as we’ve ever owned.”

The victory was a sweet one for Susan Grange, the owner of Lothlorien Stables, as her late mother, Audrey Campbell, was a two-time North America Cup champion.

"It was very exciting, especially with my mother winning twice with two other horses so it was a little extra special for us," she said. "He was awesome but a horse race is a horse race and it can change at the last minute.  But when he started to move forward I had my fingers crossed."

Well Said notched his third win this year in four starts and adds $750,000 to his earnings, pushing his career earnings to $1,389,627 with seven wins in 16 starts. He had upset Keep It Real to win one of the four North America Cup elimination heats the week prior in 1:50.
