New Stakes Record in Horse & Groom Final

March 11, 2007

Two Weeks Notice set a new stakes record of 1:54 in capturing the featured sixth race, $80,000 Horse & Groom Final Sunday at the Meadowlands. The previous stakes record of 1:54.1 was set by Mohammed Mali in 2005.

With driver Ron Pierce at the lines, Two Weeks Notice battled first up around the backside and took off in the stretch to win by five and a half lengths over CR Dream Catcher who edged out Big Bruiser in third.

“I was just a passenger,” Pierce said from the winner’s circle. “I just sat there. The horse did all the work. Ray and Larry [Remmen] did a great job getting him ready and aiming him for this race. He was really good this afternoon. He threw a shoe around the first turn. I was concerned but it didn’t seem to bother him. He is a very nice horse. He is good gaited and covers the ground real well. I knew I had a shot of winning. [Striking Mystery] I was concerned about how much he had left in his tank but I knew mine had plenty.”

Trained by the Ray Remmen stable, the six-year-old gelded son of Yankee Glide notched his third victory of the year in five tries and increased his career earnings to $173,387 for owners Jason and Matt Sullinger of Lexington, Kentucky
