He Wants It All Scores in $20,750 Try Scotch at Maywood
May 20, 2005
Michael Polansky’s He Wants It All made his first career start at Maywood Park in Friday night’s $20,750 Try Scotch Free For All Handicap a winning one, scoring in 1:52.1 for driver Tony Morgan. That clocking was a national seasons mark for a five-year-old pacing gelding and is just a fifth of a second off the aged pacing mark at the half-mile oval. The five-year-old son of The Big Dog won by two and three-quarter lengths over Mattygonne A (Dave Mage) and Ohubetterbelieveit (Ryan Anderson) third.
"This is a REAL horse," Morgan quipped. "If I had let him pace faster down the backside there's no telling how fast he would have gone. Once he gets to the top he just drops the lines and totallly relaxes. He's a beautifully-going horse with a huge gear and he's very fleet-footed. His connections paid six figures for him when Tom (trainer Harmer) got Mr. Polansky's horses to train. At one point he was thought to have been finished--racing wise. But Tom gave him a lot of time off and he got him sound again. This winter he had a breathing problem which Tom solved and got cleared up and now this horse is just a monster."
He Wants It All has now won seven of 13 starts this year, including the Isle of Capri Final for trainer Tom Harmer. The bay horse comes off a 1:51.3 Free For All triumph last Saturday (May 14) at Balmoral Park. He earlier rattled off four consecutive victories before his streak was snapped in $200,000 Dan Patch at Hoosier Park when he was run into by a breaking horse. His seasonal earnings now stand at $142,525.
