July 27, 2006
Donato Hanover and Mythical Lindy each won pair of $20,000 elimination races on Wednesday night that determined the finalists for the $456,000 Peter Haughton Memorial Final for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings on August 3 at the Meadowlands.
In the first division Donato Hanover extended his winning streak to three with a three and a quarter length victory over Bet To Win. Bamboo Yankee was third. Donato Hanover, a son of Andover Hall--D Train, was sent off as the 2-5 favorite and took the lead before the half, and drew off to his third win in four starts, trotting a lifetime best of 1:56.2. Driven by Ron Pierce, the half-brother to Hambletonian hopeful Here Comes Herbie is trained by Steve Elliott for owners David Scharf, Golden Touch Stable and Steven Arnold. Gliding Myth (fourth) and Manfinity [fifth] also earned spots in the Haughton Final.
Mythical Lindy overcame an early break to rally for a three and a quarter length victory in the second division. The SJ’s Caviar colt, driven by David Miller and trained by Jim Arledge Jr., covered the mile in a career best of 1:57.4. He now has two wins and one second in three starts and races for Ohioans Thomas York Jr. and Joe Sbrocco.
Stunt Man Hall and Italian-bred Impeto Grif were second and third, respectively. Around And Over, second across the wire, was disqualified and placed fourth for violation of the breaking rule. He will advance to the final along with Anton K, who was fifth.
