Three Harriman Cup Divisions Contested

June 26, 2008

Victor Blue Chip drew off to a 1-1/4-length victory over his entrymate Salutation Hanover in the first of three $36,000 Harriman Cup divisions for 2-year-old trotters.

Ron Pierce drove Victor Blue Chip [Credit Winner-Precious Lindy] to the 1:57.3 win for trainer Steve Elliott and owners David Scharf and Robert Rosenheim. All four connections, along with Victor Blue Chip’s caretaker, Ann Christin Johnsen, were who guided Donato Hanover last season.

“He was well within himself,” Pierce said. “I planned on sitting with him and moving him at the end. We went a 30.4 second quarter and I couldn’t get anyone to cover me up. I sat him on the outside at the three-quarter pole and knew no one was going to catch him from there. I just let him trot on his own home. To me, he looks like the real deal.”

The winners of the other two Harriman Cup divisions were Vacation Day [Dream Vacation-Shutter Hanover], 1:59, driven by John Campbell and Broadwaylonghall [Broadway Hall-Rosemary T], 1:58.1, driven by Yannick Gingras.

Two $42,000 Goshen Cup divisions for 2-year-old colt pacers were also contested Thursday night. John Campbell guided Major In Art [Art Major-Miami Spice] to a 1:58.1 while Brian Sears drove Mobile [Real Desire-Hidden Virtue] to victory in 1:55.3.
