Hambletonian & Hambo Elims

July 28, 2007

Hambletonian Oaks Elim #1
The first of two $50,000 Hambletonian Oak eliminations was contested and Possess The Magic didn't let her backers down, winning easily for driver Mike Lachance in 1:53.2 at The Meadowlands on Saturday afternoon.

"She was just very good today, very good-gaited and very relaxed," LaChance said. "With the rail I didn't really have to do much with her. When I asked her to move, she did. "

Possess The Magic is trained by Ron Gurfein for Brittnay Farms of Versailles, KY. She now has earnings of $944,513 in her career.

Hambletonian Oaks Elim #2
Brian Sears used a tactful, come-from-behind move to capture the second Hambletonian Oaks with Falls For You in 1:54.4.

"She's a really nice filly, I drove her last year at 2," Sears said. "She races very well closing, but she really likes to pass horses. I've been second in this race three years in a row, and it would be really nice to win this race."

Trond Smedshammer trains the daughter of Yankee Glide for owners Atlantic Trot, Winds Farm, Ted Gerwertz and Willow Pond LLC of Florida. Falls For You now has $128,742 in seasonal earnings and $427,335 in career dollars.

The first five finishers from each elim compete in $750,000 Oaks Final next Saturday at The Meadowlands.

Hambletonian Elim #1
The filly has done it! Pampered Princess captured the first $70,000 Hambletonian elimination effortlessly in 1:53 for driver Tim Tetrick and trainer Jimmy Takter. That time was a career best for the daughter of Andover Hall.

"She really wanted to leave out of there, so I let her go a little bit out of the gate," Tetrick said. "She's just perfect to drive."

Pampered Princess is owned by Bob and David Anderson of Ontario. She now has over $1.1 million in her bank account.

Hambletonian Elim #2
Donato Hanover, last year's divisional champion, has now won 12 in a row, capturing his Hambletonian in 1:53.1. Ron Pierce was at the lines.

"I wanted to use him a little more today than I normally do," Pierce said. "I touched him on the tail with the whip and he didn't really like that. He really hasn't shown what he can do yet. Pampered Princess is just a sweetheart and it will look to be a great race next week."

Donato Hanover now has $957,587 in career earnings for owners S.Arnold, D. Scharf and Golden Touch Stable of New York & New Jersey. Steve Elliott trains the son of Andover Hall.

"The Hambletonian can't come soon enough," Elliott said.

Hambletonian Elim #3
Adrian Chip captured the third Hambletonian elim easily in 1:54.2, a career best. Born in the US and raced mostly in Sweden, the son of Andover Hall is trained by his driver Robert Bergh and owned by Swedish interests.

"The racetracks are no problem here," Bergh said. "He left well and I was impressed the way he raced today as this was his first start here. He will do much better next week if he can get some paddock time this week."
