August 1, 1884 – Jay-Eye-See sets the trotting world record of 2:10 at Providence, Rhode Island.
August 2, 1884 – Maud S. reclaims the world trotting record from Jay-Eye-See by going 2:09-3/4 at Cleveland, Ohio.
August 2, 2001 – Mini Me sets the world record for 2-year-old gelding pacers on a mile track, winning the Robb Ranger Final at Balmoral Park in 1:50.4.
August 3, 1955 – Scott Frost wins the Hambletonian at Good Time Park in Goshen, New York, and goes on to become the first trotting Triple Crown winner in harness racing history.
August 12, 1874 – Goldsmith Maid sets the trotting world record of 2:14-3/4 at Rochester.
August 12, 1880 – St. Julian trots a world record 2:11-3/4 at Rochester while on the same day, at the same location, Maud S. equals the time.
August 12, 1936 – Rosalind wins the Hambletonian at Good Time Park in Goshen, New York. Rosalind is owned by Ben White’s teenage son, Gibson, who is suffering from tuberculosis. The story is later retold by Marguerite Henry in the children’s book “Born to Trot.”
August 13, 1992 – Immortality wins the Sweetheart in 1:53 at the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey.
August 14, 1867 – Dexter trots a world record 2:17-1/4 at Buffalo, lowering his own world record mark from 2:19.
August 15, 1946 – Harrington Raceway in Delaware opens. August 16, 1993 – Cambest sets the pacing world record of 1:46.1 in a time trial at Springfield, Illinois.
August 17, 1892 – Nancy Hanks trots a world record 2:07-1/4 at Washington Park in Chicago.
August 18, 1892 – Hal Pointer sets the pacing world record of 2:04-1/4 at Chicago.
August 19, 1995 – His Majesty S wins the Yonkers International Trot by two lengths over SJ's Photo, covering the mile-and-a-quarter in 2:26.2.
August 20, 1976 – Taurus Bomber equals the fastest race mile in history, 1:54.3, at Springfield, Illinois, and also sets the two-heat world record of 3:49.2.
August 21, 1881 – Little Brown Jug lowers the pacing world record to 2:11-3/4 at Hartford, Connecticut.
August 21, 1924 – Peter Manning sets the world record of 2:02-1/2 for trotting on a half-mile track at South Bend, Indiana.
August 21, 1976 – Dream Of Glory equals the world record for trotting on a five-eighths track by winning in 1:57.3 at Sportsman’s Park in Illinois.
August 21, 1987 – Mack Lobell sets the trotting world record of 1:52.1 at Springfield.
August 22, 1993 – Hambletonian champ American Winner wins one of three Zweig Memorial divisions at the Syracuse Fairgrounds in New York. Giant Chill and Toss Out win the others. August 23, 1957 – Northfield Park in Ohio opens.
August 24, 1894 – Robert J defeats Joe Patchen in 2:05, 2:06, and 2:06-1/2 to establish the world record for three heats.
August 25, 1968 – Nevele Pride wins the Hambletonian at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in Illinois on his way to the Trotting Triple Crown.
August 26, 1979 – Hot Hitter sets the world record for pacing on a five-eighths mile track by winning in 1:54 at Blue Bonnets in Montreal.
August 27, 1880 – St. Julien trots a world record 2:11-1/4 at Hartford.
August 27, 1897 – Star Pointer becomes the first pacer to go under 2:00, finishing in 1:59-1/4 in Readville, Massachusetts.
August 28, 1993 – Riyadh wins the Cane Pace in a track record 1:51.2 at Yonkers Raceway in New York.
August 29, 1894 – Robert J paces a mile in 2:03-3/4 to set the world record at Fort Wayne, Indiana.
August 30, 1875 – Sleepy George wins the Pacing Championship of the United States in Boston.
August 30, 1926 – Guy McKinney wins the inaugural Hambletonian in 2:04-3/4 at the New York State Fair in Syracuse. The purse is $73,451.
August 31, 1892 – Nancy Hanks lowers her trotting world record to 2:05-1/4 at Independence, Iowa.
August 31, 1969 – Nevele Pride breaks Greyhound’s 31-year-old world record of 1:55-1/4 by trotting 1:54.4 in Indianapolis.
