HHI Convention in Florida

Dominic Frinzi was re-elected president of Harness Horsemen International on Tuesday as part of the organization’s annual convention at the Embassy Suites Resort. Also re-elected were First Vice President Gene Oldford, Second Vice President Jerry Brittingham, Treasurer Mike Izzo & Secretary Sal DiMario.

Ron Battoni (Pennsylvania), Jane Murray (Florida), Jim Whelan (Ontario) and Jerry Knappenberger (Ohio) were elected at-large directors.

U.S. Trotting Association Executive Vice President Eric Sharbaugh and USTA President Phil Langley addressed the convention during an earlier session. There also were panel discussions related to video lottery terminals and health insurance, plus committee meetings.

On Wednesday night, the convention will close with its awards dinner. Timothy J. Rooney, president of Yonkers Raceway, will be recognized as Man of the Year; Leon Zimmerman, lobbyist and public relations consultant, will receive the Clyde Hirt Media Award; and Dr. Fuyu Gran and Dr. Cornelius Uboh, both of the Pennsylvania Equine Toxicology Lab, and Dr. Lawrence Soma and Dr. Eric Birks, of the New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania, will be honored with the Appreciation Award for their work on developing EPO testing.
