Green Day Rocks at The Meadowlands
June 6, 2007
Green Day, the trotter not the band, stole the show in the first of three $25,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes divisions for three-year-old trotting colts on Thursday night at the Meadowlands.
Driven by Cat Manzi, Green Day surged past the tiring leader Altered States in the stretch to post a length and three-quarter victory in 1:54.1, in the evening's fifth race. Year In Review closed fastest of all for the show spot.
Green Day racked up his fourth win in seven starts this season for trainer Jim Raymer. The son of Enjoy Lavec-Sonoma Hanover was a $6,000 yearling purchase at the 2005 Lexington Selected Sale.
Manzi returned to the winner's circle in the eighth race NJSS division with Strive For Perfect, who trotted to a career best 1:55.4. The victories were the first for Manzi since he resumed driving duties at the Meadowlands on June 6. The Hall of Famer was sidelined for two weeks by rib and back injuries.
The other NJSS division went to Biz Hub, who cruised to a three-length win in 1:53.4 for driver Brian Sears and trainer Trond Smedshammer.
