$56,854 Goshen Cup Divisions Contested

In the first of a pair of $56,854 Goshen Cup splits for two-year-old pacing colts, He's Personal set a stakes record while Western Ace coasted to his second straight victory at the Big M in the second. He's Personal, driven by George Brennan and trained by Wayne Whitson, scored a half-length victory over Total Truth in a stakes record 1:52.2. Bartolomeo was third in the first Goshen Cup division, the second race.

He's Personal chipped three-fifths of a second off of the 1:53 stakes record shared by Tyberwood [1999] and Explosive Ride [2001]. The son of Badlands Hanover--Best Personality races for Lester Allen Walls of Ridgley, Maryland, and Jack Upchurch of Wye Mills, Maryland. He was a $9,500 New Jersey Classic Yearling Sale purchase.

"He raced well," said Brennan. "He felt good so I cleared to the lead on the backside. That 1:52.2 is a heckuva mile."

Western Ace cruised to a length and three-quarter victory over General Bailey in the third race, the second Goshen Cup division. Karbonator was third by two lengths. Western Ace paced a lifetime best of 1:53.4 for Teague Inc. of Houston, Delaware, and Kovach Stables of Milford, Delaware. The gelded son of Western Ideal - Alice Alice, a $20,000 Harrisburg yearling, is trained by George Teague Jr.

"I let him coast on out," said winning driver Ron Pierce. "When John [Campbell with General Bailey] crossed with his colt, I tipped off John's back on the turn and my colt paced to the top. I just sat there the rest of the way. He had plenty left at the wire."
