Majestic Son Wins Goodtimes
June 17, 2006
Majestic Son and driver Trevor Ritchie trotted to a 1:53.2 win in the $280,600 Goodtimes Stakes at Woodbine Saturday night. With three horses making early brakes, including the post-time favourite Algiers Hall who didn't make the gate, Majestic Son was able to clear Campbell Hall (Steve Condren) and take the lead before the :27.4 quarter. Jack Moiseyev shot out of the four-hole with B Cor Rennegade before the half and pressured Majestic Son past the :57.3 half and that duo opened up five lengths on the field before B Cor Rennegade made a break, taking him out of contention.
With pocket sitter Campbell Hall lagging and outer flow stalling, Majestic Son was able to open up on the field as they turned for home after hitting three-quarters in 1:25.1 John Campbell tipped Glidemaster off cover at the head of the lane but they could not catch Majestic son, whose closing quarter of :28.1 was enough have their picture taken. Glidemaster finished second, with longshot Lovin Every Moment (Charlie Norris) grabbing show.
It was the second in four for Majestic Son (Angus Hall - Celtic Countessa), who is trained by Mark Steacy and owned by David Reid, David McDonald, Dr. Malcolm Son Hing and the A K Malik Stable of Ontario. With the win, Majestic Son now sports a regal bankroll of $684,585. The time of the mile is a seasonal record and just missed the stakes record of 1:53.1 held by Classic Photo.
