Mr Lemon Wins $130,000 Gold Series Final
June 3, 2006
Mr Lemon lulled his sophomore rivals to sleep over a tiring track at Woodbine on Saturday night in the $130,000 O.S.S. Gold Series final for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings. The son of Mr Lavec - Lemons Mill was hustled to the lead by co-owner/driver Jody Jamieson, who dictated fractions of :29.1, 1:00.3 and 1:30.4 with the gelding, who sprinted home in :28.3 for the half-length decision over pocket-sitter Campbell Hall (Striking Sahbra), who finished second.
"Mr Lemon was awesome tonight," said Jamieson following the mile. "It was nice to see a few of them break early and it's great to win a Gold final with your own horse. I was very confident when the half flashed up in 1:00.3. He had some problems late last year, but he has trotted 1-2-3-4 this year."
Breaking Benjamin (San Pellegrino) finished three and a half-lengths back in third while final cheques went to King Covenant (King Conch), who was fourth, and B Cor Rennegade (CR Renegade), who finished fifth. Race favourite A Gentleman made a break and finished eighth. Carl Jamieson trains Mr Lemon, who sports a 2006 record of 3-1-0 in six starts, for the partnership of Thomas Kyron of Etobicoke and Jody Jamieson of Dundas, ON, along with William Jones of Lexington and Benjamin Taylor of Nicholasville, KY.
Mr Lemon, who was purchased for $17,000 at the 2004 Forest City Yearling Sale, took home $65,000 with his Saturday night score, which is the biggest single haul for the career winner of $153,674.
