Glidemaster Connections Unsure about Triple Crown
October 12, 2006
Hambletonian winner Glidemaster may make his final start in the Breeders Crown at the end of October, according to his trainer Blair Burgess.
"The Breeders Crown could be the last hurrah," Burgess said. :I don't know if The Yonkers Trot and Trotting Triple Crown carries the weight or luster as it did, say, 20 years ago."
The trainer said he hadn't decided whether the Yankee Glide--Cressida Hanover colt would be supplemented for the Yonkers Trot, the third leg of the trotting triple crown. An expensive supplemental and starting fee, a half-mile track and new and untested racing surface at Yonkers Raceway were all concerns for Burgess.
"I don't think it (Chocolatier retiring) makes it much easier. It'll still be a tough field." Burgess said, Following the Breeders Crown, Burgess said that Glidemaster is only eligible for a few races on smaller tracks, and that his future as a four-year-old was uncertain.
