Gingras Wins Five at Yonkers Monday
March 5, 2007
Yannick Gingras won five races from eight drives on the wind-driven, dozen-race card at Yonkers Monday night. He first won with the three-year-old trotting colt Mr Lebo in the second race, in 2:02. Gingras then authored an 14-1 upset in the third race pace with the soph filly So Tuffian who prevailed in 2:03.3.
Gingras' third victory came behind favoured Kiwi Cam in the eighth race pace (1:58.2), then with Your Best Bet in the 10th race pace, traversing the eight furlongs in 1:58.1. He completed his personal quintet with the 8-1 Southwind Irvin in the $18,000 pacing finale, which went in 1:58.4.
The 27 year-old Gingras began the week with 117 dash wins, good for seventh in the North American standings, while his $1.3 million in earnings rank fifth. He comes off by far a personal-best season of more than $7.1 million in purses in 2006. Included in that figure was a win behind standout three-year-old filly Darlins Delight in the $291,456 Lady Maud in late November at Yonkers.
