In Georgia Horse Racing Bill Dies

Many of the legislative proposals fell by the wayside Friday as they failed to make the General Assembly's deadline for passing in the chamber they originated in. Among the victims was legalizeing betting on horse races.

Passing constitutional amendments requires the majority Republicans to persuade enough Democrats to join them to reach a two-thirds vote, a tough challenge with controversial proposals.

Of the 5,188 pieces of legislation introduced during this two-year term of the General Assembly, most of the ones that fail simply never make it out of the committees they were assigned to.
