Real Hanover Wins Fox Sports Net Final

Thursday, April 20, 2006

Real Hanover rallied from off the pace to capture the $43,315 Fox Sports Net Final, the sixth race on Thursday night at the Meadowlands. The four-year-old gelding paced the mile in a lifetime best of 1:50.4. Apache Hotspur, one of a trio of Nelson Willis trainees coupled in the wagering, was second by a length and a quarter. It was two and a quarter lengths to Austin’s Best in third.

“He’s done a turn around,” said winning driver David Miller, who last sat behind the horse on February 10, finishing fifth in a preliminary round of the Exit 16W Series. “He’s a completely different horse now.”

The son of Western Hanover posted his second victory of the year and now has 29 wins, six seconds and five thirds from 55 career starts, banking $103,054.

“I was third-over,” said Miller, who also won both ends of the early Daily Double. “I thought it was a good enough spot. I was following a couple of good horses. The flow wasn’t moving up, but they were setting a hot pace. My horse felt good all away around the last turn. He had a good hold of me, and I fanned him out. He started digging. It was just a matter of getting there, and he kept coming. At this point, he’s on top of his game right now and racing very sharp.”

It was Miller’s second Fox Sports Net trophy. He won the 2005 edition with Shu Hanover. Real Hanover, trained by Rodney Bolon, was purchased privately by James Snyder of Wooster, Ohio, last November 7.
