Elitlopp 2005 Fields are Set

Chucaro Ahijuna heads a field of trotters who will compete in Sweden's premiere trotting event this Sunday, the Elitlopp. Besides Chucaro Ahijuna, Civil Action and 2001 Hambletonian winner Scarlet Knight will also compete. Chucaro Ahijuna won the Mack Lobell at Pompano Park, the Dover leg of the Classic Series and competed in the free for all ranks at the Meadowlands. The simulcast of races eight through 12 from Solvalla begins at 10:30 am, EST at The Meadowlands--the only North American track to simulast this great event.

There was some question as to whether the Swedish Trotting Association was going to allow the Argentiean-bred---the fastest double-gaited performer in North America---to participate in the historic race. Scandinavian countries do not recognize the Argentina Standardbred registry. Chucaro Ahijuna has a trotting mark of 1:533f, taken this year at Pompano, and a pacing mark of 1:514f, set two years ago, at age six, also at Pompano.
