Delaware Breeders Races Wrap up Dover Meet

Four $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) events wrapped up the final day of Dover Downs 37th season on Thursday, April 13. The 19-year-old Brandon Givens had the biggest day of his career driving the winners of both trotting finals, All This Snazz, trained by his dad, Les Givens, and Westgate Alexis, conditioned by his uncle, Wayne Givens.

All This Snazz remained unbeaten in three lifetime starts after winning in 1:57.4 for owners Nanticoke Racing Inc. of Seaford, Del., Westgate Alexis, bred and owned by Vicki Givens, Brandon's mother, and the late Harvey Simpson, won her ninth in a row and 10th win in 11 starts going right to the front from post 8 and never looking back in an uncontested 2:00.4 victory.

Eddie Davis Jr. took Gary and Barbara Iles' homebred Lather Machine right to the lead for a scorching 1:51.1 mile. Lather Machine is an altered son of Badlands Hanover out of Pocket Comb, a stakes winning sister to the Iles' late Delmarva star pacer Crew Cut Zach. Bobby Clark trains Lather Machine, who has won six of nine career starts.

Ireneonthemove lived up to her name in the $100,000 filly pace. The sophomore daughter of Powerful Toy romped to a 1:52 triumph with Tony Morgan at the controls. She is trained by Jason Skinner for owner Rodney Watt of Milford, Del. The filly has now won $177,666 while winning 10 of 13 races.

The Horse of the Meet award went to Fred and Anita Fialkow's Keystone Rodeo. Driver of the meet was Tony Morgan and Trainer of the meet was Josh Green. Delaware harness racing now moves to Harrington Raceway, which opens on Monday, April 17. Live racing returns to Dover Downs for the start it's 38th season on Monday, Oct. 30. The first two months of the 38th season will be highlighted by the $425,000 Progress Pace, all eight lucrative Matron Stakes, four $100,000 DSBF Finals, four $85,000 Classic Series preliminaries and four $250,000 finals on Nov. 27.
