Considered to be one of the top free for all pacers of all time, Direct Scooter won 36 of 60 races over his two-year-old career. His list of victories include the US Pacing Championship, the American Pacing Championship, the R. Bruce Cornell Memorial at Freehold Raceway, among others.

Direct Scooter scored his lifetime best mark of 1:54 as a three-year-old at Hollywood Park and went on to be named Aged Pacer of the Year in 1980.

Direct Scooter retired to stud at Walnridge Farm in the fall of 1980. Over teh years he sired over 1,600 starters who have earned $100 million in purses. His fastest and richest performer is the $2.9 million winning Matt's Scooter, who took a time-trial mark of 1:48.2. Other top performers include In The Pocket (a winner of $1.5 million), Easter Sun Hanna, Expensive Scooter, Direct Flight, Major Blur, Strong Clan, etc.

The champion pacer turned top stallion was humanly euthanized at the age of 29 due to colic and possible cancer in mid-April of 2005.
