Mr Pine Chip Wins $375,000 Dancer Memorial

July 15, 2006

Mr. Pine Chip and driver Brian Sears won the $375,000 Stanley Dancer Memorial for three-year old trotting colts at The Meadowlands on Saturday by a neck in a career best 1:52.

Blue Mac Lad and George Brennan were first to the lead in a :27.4 quarter mile, with Ira K behind him and Chocolatier third along the rail. Chocolatier, with DR Ackerman aboard, was tipped out to challenge just before the quarter and broke into a run just after the quarter. Blue Mac Lad continued on an unchallenged lead to the :55.2 half and maintained that position to the 1:23 three quarters, with Here Comes Herbie (Trond Smedshammer) giving chase in second. When they straightened out in the stretch, Mr Pine Chip and Sears were trotting hard on the outside and passed a tiring Blue Mac Lad within a few feet of the wire for the win.
