 Dan Patch
Dan Patch was one of harness racing's first superstars, as he and his connections enjoyed extenesive career endorsements, including having his name and photo on cigar boxes, washing machines and candy. He repeatedly broke records as the fastest pacer of his day, and set a mark of 1:55.4 in a time trial in 1905--a record thought impossible during that era--and that mark stood until 1938. He had a racing mark of 1:58, and retired undefeated in 1909 as the holder of nine world records.
