Costa Rica is, as of October 6, the richest 2-year-old of 2009--of both the trotting and pacing gates. The Muscles Yankee lass has amassed just over $813,00 from 12 starts, with eight wins and four seconds to her credit.

She began her career at The Meadowlands in late June 2009, scoring a pair of baby races in 2:04 and 2:01 respectively. Her first formal start came in the $31,320 Acorn on July 1, where she made an uncharacteristic break at the wire to finish second. She followed that up with a winning, front-end effort on July 8 in a $34,100 New Jersey Sire Stakes test for driver John Campbell, trotting in 1:59.2, with a :27.3 final quarter brush. She then cruised to victory in the $200,000 final on July 23, trotting in a career best 1:58.2, winning by two and a half-lengths for her Hall of Fame reinsman.

She then captured her $20,000 Merrie Annabell elimination in 1:56.1 on July 30, in rein to driver Ron Pierce for the first time, but finished second in the $525,800 final one week later, clocked in 1:55.2, and beaten only three-quarter of a length.

Costa Rica then captured a $21,800 elim and the $100,000 New Jersey Sire Stake final at Freehold Raceway in mid and late August and then finished second in her $20,000 Goldsmith Maid elim on August 30 at Chester, before winning the $450,000 final on September 9 in 1:56.2 with Pierce in the sulky. She went on to win both her $27,900 Peaceful Way elim at Mohawk on September 14, and the $441,750 Final on September 20, trotting in a lifetime best 1:55 for Pierce. She then finished second in a $87,625 Bluegrass Stake at Lexington's fame Red Mile on September 29.
