New Zealand's Gavin Cook captured the final race of the Amateur Series on Wednesday Night at The Big M, steering the trotter Kinetic Kid to victory in 2:05.1.
That sees Cook as the overall winner of the World Cup, as he added 13 points to his 57 for a total of 70. David Siegel of the USA, was leading heading into this final leg, but his horse broke in this last race, adding just one point to his 66 points. Denmark's Teddy Wang, held his second place standing, adding 11 points to his 58 for a total of 69.
Loman Battles On Despite Sadness Alle Loman, representing the Czech Republic, learned Wednesday his mother, Cornelia Loman Kort, died unexpectedly of a heart attack. She was 85.
Somehow Loman managed to hold his grief in check and win the first of two World Cup races contested at Freehold Raceway Wednesday afternoon, May 21. Loman guided trotter Xiaomei to victory in 2:04.1. He could be seen wiping his cheek with his shirt sleeve just prior to the finish line.
“I think I cried the whole way,” Loman said. “I loved my mother so much, and she was my biggest fan. I would give everything away if I could talk to her one hour more, and say goodbye.”
