Armbro Duece Wins Confederation Cup

Armbro Deuce captured the 30th edition of the $500,000 Confederation Cup in a new overall track, Canadian and World Record of 1:50.2. Driver George Brennan had the even money favorite on the lead throughout the mile, pacing through fractions of :26.4, :55.1 and 1:22.3 before closing in :27.4 to best Western Ace (Ron Pierce) and Secluded Island (Roger Mayotte).

The time of the mile eclipsed American Ideal's track and Canadian record set last year in the Confederation Cup final. It also ties the World Record for three-year-old pacers on a half-mile track, co-owned by Million Dollar Cam and Allamerican Captor.

Trainer Blair Burgess also recently conditioned this year's Hambletonian winner Glidemaster to victory in the $1.5 million stake. This marks the first Confederation Cup win for driver Brennan, trainer Burgess, and Ontario-based owners Bob Burgess, Karin Olsson Burgess, Neal Cooper and Richard Kostoff, who supplemented Armbro Duece for $25,000.

Burgess said the colt's next major stakes event would be the Simcoe before heading to Delaware to compete for the Little Brown Jug. The mile marks a new lifetime best for the Western Ideal - Michelles Fantasy colt, who now sports a bankroll of $630,000+ lifetime.
