Miss Galvinator Takes Cape & Cutter

February 25, 2007

Miss Galvinator captured the $81,200 Cape & Cutter Final Friday night at The Meadowlands in 1:54.1. Miss Galvinator has now won 14 of her last 15 starts for trainer Ettore Annunziata and driver Yannick Gingras. Annunziata trains the Australian-bred Miss Galvinator for his son, Richard, of Mahopac, New York. The eight-year-old daughter of Fake Left now boasts $554,711 in career earnings.

Miss Galvinator improved her 2007 record to five wins in six starts. She won 13 races in a row before finishing third to Nanny Withafanny in the opening round of the Cape & Cutter series. The mare was scratched out of the second leg of the series after she missed the cutoff time for Lasix treatment, resulting in an unintended week off.

"Halfway down the stretch, I thought she was beat," Gingras said. "She was starting to get a little tired, but as soon as we reached an eighth of a mile to go, she took off again. She's just a tough horse. Last week, people were worried about taking the week off, but I wasn't worried one bit. I thought the week off was going to help her. She deserved a week off and she probably deserves another one off after tonight. She raced real hard.

"When Stonebridge Kisses is that close, I'm a little worried," added Gingras, who was the regular driver of the runner-up last season. "Usually, she gets away far back. Dube got her to leave tonight and I never got her to leave that good!"
