Western Terror & Timesareachanging Win Cane Pace The first dead heat ever in the 50th Cane Pace took place on Sunday afternoon at Freehold Raceway in New Jersey as Western Terror (John Campbell) and stablemate Timesareachanging (Ron Pierce) came home together in 1:52.3.
Both of these sophomore pacers are conditioned by Brett Pelling and both are owned by the Perfect World Enterprises. $334,875 was the purse for the Cane Pace, the first leg of pacing's Triple Crown. Trainer Pelling now has two colts eligible for Triple Crown, which culminates with the Messenger Stake on September 14 at Harrington Raceway in Deleware (leg 2) and the Little Brown Jug at Delaware, Ohio (leg 3) on September 23.
All-Age World Record in World Trotting Derby Tom Ridge (Ron Pierce) won the $530,000 World Trotting Derby at Du Quoin on Saturday, September 4th with a new all-age world record of 1:50.2 in the final heat after winning the first heat in 1:51. The previous mark for 3-year-old colt trotters on a mile track was held by Andover Hall (1:51.3). Cantab Hall (Mike LaChance) finished second, with Coventry (DR Ackerman) third in both dashes.
Also, Hambletonian Oaks winner Silver Springs, who won the first heat in 1:52.4, was declared the winner of the $130,000 Filly World Trotting Derby.
