Paragon Wins $123,500 Cam Fella Final

Saturday, March 18, 2006

Paragon captured the $123,500 Cam Fella Pacing Series final Saturday night at Woodbine Raceway. Paragon was allowed to follow second over cover behind the likes of Blue Burner and Landscapist, who were responsible for fractions of :27.2, :55.2 and 1:23.3. Zeron had Paragon firing on all cylinders coming out of the final turn and with the help of a :28.2 final quarter he was good enough to stop the teletimer in a career-best clocking of 1:52.3.

"I was kind of figuring that Mike and Mark were probably going to get at it a little bit to see which one would was going to set up the fractions and be on the front-end to get the best advantage," said Zeron. "That's how the speed got going a little bit for me. I was lucky enough to grab a helmet which dragged me to the head of the lane and my horse took it from there."

Bona Fide X Ample (Jennas Beach Boy) finished just a half-length back in second after springing loose in the lane for driver Jack Moiseyev while Woolloomooloo (Astreos) rallied from off the pace to finish third for driver Luc Ouellette. Blue Burner faded to finish sixth and Landscapist wound up a disappointing seventh in his quest for the series sweep. Paragon, a winner of $163,350 in his career, improved his 2006 record to 2-2-1 in 10 tries for partners Tony Montini of Acton, Adelio Cicchetti of Mississauga, Basil Michele of Acton and Paul Giammichele of Burlington, ON., who purchased the pacer at Harrisburg last November.
