The definition of a Blue Chip is a nationally recognized, well-established and financially sound company. This aptly-named farm is all that and more.
Founded in 1969 by the Kimelman family, it is currently owned by Thomas and Pam Grossman. The farm, in Wallkill, NY, is comprised of 648 acres and has an average population of 350 horses. It stands five stallions in its New York facility and manages a sixth stallion, Shadow Play, who stands in Ontario. Art Major Of the stallions with foals old enough to race, Art Major, Bettors Delight and Credit Winner range in the top three in the nation for their respective gaits.

Combined, the Blue Chip stallions bred over 800 mares in North America during 2010, and in addition to boarding and reproductive services, the farm also prepares over 70 yearlings for commercial auction every year. Credit Winner Grossman was the first to send a top stallion to stand Down Under and now four of Blue Chip’s stable (American Ideal, Art Major, Bettors Delight and Shadow Play) are dual-hemisphere stallions.
In 2001, one way Blue Chip fought to get video lottery terminals (VLTs) in New York was by creating and distributing orange helmet covers that simply said “YES”. They were worn by many drivers across New York State and brought much attention to the cause.
Blue Chip Farms focuses on quality -- not quantity -- and is committed to the continued development of the horse industry in New York. The goal is to bring New York racing into the 21st century by developing equine breeding programs to rival the best in North America.
Blue Chip’s primary aspiration is to “Breed, Raise, and Sell” champions for its racing clientele.
Grand Circuit individuals that have been bred and raised by Blue Chip include Gallo Blue Chip (World Champion, $4,260,959), Santanna Blue Chip ($1,597,725), Kenneth J ($1,551,627), Isabella Blue Chip (World Champion, $792,069) and Beloved Angel ($679,074).
