Future Destiny takes Blossom Final in 1:52.1
April 19, 2006
Football’s Wayne Chrebet and boxing’s George Foreman now know what it is like to have a four-legged champion – a pacing filly named Future Destiny -- who won the $70,790 Blossom Final Wednesday night at the Meadowlands. Future Destiny drew off to a four-length victory over longshot Pacific Philly, pacing a lifetime best of 1:52.1. Bikini Bottom, who won both of her preliminary rounds in the three-week series for three-year-old pacing fillies, finished third by four and three-quarter lengths.
Future Destiny, who did not race at two, now has four wins in five starts and earnings of $80,845. The winner of the $64,000 Tender Loving Care Final on February 24, she suffered her only loss, a third-place finish last week in round two of the Blossom.
“She had a virus last week,” said winning driver Ron Pierce. “But she was great tonight. The first time I drove her, George [trainer Teague] told me she was as good as Western Ace. Sure enough she was very impressive. She’s a very special filly, and I like her very much.” Chrebet, who retired from the Jets this year, and heavyweight champion Foreman purchased an interest in Future Destiny on March 5.
“I’ve had a couple of horses in series, but this is the first time I’ve had a victory,” said Chrebet, who was in the winner’s circle. “I love the claimers, the old war horses, and hoped to be fortunate enough to have a chance to own a horse like this one day. Then my trainer, Kevin McDermott, put me together with George Teague to get involved with this filly. I love the sport and plan to be around for a long time.”
Chrebet, who races as the Double Down Stables of Colts Neck, New Jersey; Foreman, who is from Huffman, Texas, own the daughter of Artiscape–-Future Millbank with K&R Racing LLC and Teague Inc., both of Houston, Delaware.
