At The Meadowlands
for the week of March 16-20, 2005
Sunday Afternoon at The Meadowlands Dink Adoo extended his winning streak to 10 with a length and a quarter victory in the third race, the first of two $50,000 divisions of the first round of the Su Mac Lad Series, on Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands. Dink Adoo is now a perfect six-for-six in 2005 and has not lost a race since August 21, 2004 when he finished second in a deadheat at Northfield Park. Cordial Martini came up the inside to finish second with Upalazyriver finishing third by five and a half lengths.
Dink Adoo, a six-year-old gelded son of Inquirer, trotted the mile in 1:55 flat, equaling his lifetime best. He now has 31 wins, 23 seconds and 12 thirds in 101 lifetime starts and earnings of $313,800. Trained by Ken Rucker, the trotter was acquired by Spiridon Apostolatos' Panhellenic Stable Corporation of Long Island City, New York, on September 30, 2002.
In the second division, carded as the fifth race, ENS Snapshot, unraced in 2004, posted his first win in three starts this year. Argentinean-bred Chucaro Ahijuna, who had swept the Mack Lobell Series at Pompano Park and was the United States Trotting Association's Horse of the Month for February, was sent off as the even-money favorite but he broke on the first turn and was never a factor.
ENS Snapshot, driven by David Miller and trained by Steve Elliott, covered the mile in 1:56.2, winning by a half-length over a fast-closing Hurri Kane Billy G. Approved Action, who set the pace, finished third by a length and a quarter.
ENS Snapshot, who won his Hambletonian elimination and was seventh in the 2002 final, now has 11 wins, four seconds and six thirds from 37 career starts and earnings of $384,460. He was injured at four and missed more than a year with a suspensory injury. He has earned $30,100 since current owner Barry Alfred of Kahnawake, Quebec, acquired him last November at the Harrisburg Sale. The Su Mac Lad's second leg is schedule for April 3 with the $154,200 final on April 10.
The Meadowlands is closed next Sunday, March 27, for Easter.
At The Big M Saturday Night It was luck that allowed 75-1 It's Not Luck to win the second race, the first of two $25,000 second round divisions of the Four Leaf Clover Series on Saturday night at the Meadowlands.
"The trip worked out perfect," said trainer-driver Patrick Lachance. "We had a nice fast half [54 seconds]. I had a two-hole trip. The horse going first up [Fox Valley Gallant] made a break at the top of the lane, which gave me a shot."
It's Not Luck won by a head over JK Royal Flush and paid $158.60, $37.80 and $13.20. It was a neck back to Nvincbl Artist in third. The mile was clocked in 1:50.2.
"He showed up tonight," Lachance added. "Last week, he didn't like going first over. That's not his preference."
It's Not Luck, a five-year-old gelded son of Northern Luck, picked up his second victory in eight starts this year. Lifetime, he has 13 wins, nine seconds and nine thirds from 63 starts and earnings of $203,318. He races for the MJGB Racing Stables Inc. of Suffern, New York. In the second division of the Four Leaf Clover, carded as the tenth race, Maltese Artist popped out of the two-hole in the stretch and drew off to a length victory over Town Champion. Shattered Halo was third by three lengths.
Driven by Ron Pierce and trained by Mickey Burke, Maltese Artist paced the mile in 1:50.2. The son of Artiscape now has two wins and three seconds in six starts this year. He races for the partnership of George Leon of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John Howard of Morgantown, West Virginia and James Koran of Macedonia, Ohio. The $122,000 Four Leaf Clover Final is on Saturday, March 26.
