Racing Action At The Meadowlands

January 11-15, 2005

Saturday Night, January 15th
Eaton Road Kill picked up his first win since his December return to the races in the $50,000 opening round of the Presidential Series, the fifth race, on Saturday night at the Meadowlands. Driven by Brian Sears and trained by Mark Harder, Eaton Road Kill sat a third-over trip and flew home in 26.3 seconds for a length and a quarter victory over Life Source in 1:51.3. Make It Brief closed from seventh at the top of the stretch to finish third. Eaton Road Kill and Life Source share the track and world record of 1:48 for the fastest race mile by an older pacing gelding set on July 3, 2004 at the Meadowlands.

Friday Night, January 14th
It was a good night to bet on driver George Brennan at the Meadowlands. The 37-year-old reinsman lit up the tote board with three double-digit winners on Friday night, starting with 30-1 shot Ray Gun [$61.60] in the first race and the 35-1 Nightmareonelm [$71.80] in the second race.

Later on the card, he guided 15-1 Four Starzzz Itt [$32.60] to an upset in the featured sixth race, a $47,500 mares open. Brennan steered the five-year-old mare to a 1:51.2 victory, her second in two starts this season.

Thursday Night, January 13th
Master This drew off to win the sixth race, the second of five $18,000 divisions of the Clyde Hirt Series on Thursday night at the Meadowlands. The four-year-old gelding paced the mile in a lifetime best of 1:50 flat. A race later, Francam sizzled to victory in 1:49.1. Master This, owned and trained by Nick Callahan of Greenwood, Delaware, provided driver Brian Sears with his third winner of the night. Silver Flash closed well to finished second by a length and a half. Perfect Panderosa was third by two and a half lengths.

Francam, driven by Ron Pierce, clocked the fastest January mile ever, 1:49.1. The fired up son of Cambest, trained by John Bown and owned by Stephen Farrell of Ocala, Florida, paced successively faster quarters: 27.1, 27, 26.3 and a 26.2 final quarter. The Clyde Hirt Series continues next Thursday night with a $90,000 final on January 29.

Tuesday Night, January 11th
Pat Berry guided Worthwaitingfor to victory in the seventh race on Tuesday night to make his first visit to the Meadowlands winner's circle. Chicago-based Berry, who will be 29 on February 4, is competing at the Meadowlands for the first time this winter.

Cat Manzi posted his 3,000-victory at the Meadowlands with Lhasa Muscles in the third race on Tuesday night. Manzi, 54 of Freehold, New Jersey, became only the fourth driver to win 3,000 or more races at the Meadowlands, joining John Campbell, Bill O'Donnell and Mike Lachance in that select club. Overall, Hall of Famer Manzi has more than 10,725
victories and nearly $102 million in purses won.
