Artistic Fella wins $225,000 Berry's Creek
Artistic Fella strides out for Ron Pierce
May 6, 2006
Artistic Fella powered past Real Mean Art to win the $225,000 Berry's Creek Final, the featured eighth race on Saturday night at the Meadowlands. It was the third straight victory for Artistic Fella, who was sent off as the 8-5 favorite. He paced the mile in a lifetime best of 1:50.3, a fifth of a second off of the stakes record set by Vine Street in 1993. Bono Bests was third by two and a quarter lengths. Artistic Fella, who won the Suslow Final on April 21, now has six wins in 11 lifetime starts for earnings of $216,235.
“Trainer Stevie Elliott has a way of getting them good,” said winning driver Ron Pierce. “This colt has the ability, and Stevie got it out of him. I'm happy to be part of Steve's team. The wind is a big factor tonight, factoring into every race. There was a little checking going on around the first turn and down the back. I had to check up a few times. From the half home it was pretty smooth sailing. He has everything going for him – he has the gait and he can move his legs quick. I don't see why he can't step up.” “I really had to come second over with him, the way things worked out,” Brian Sears said of his drive behind runner-up Real Mean Art. “The other horse just seemed a little bit better tonight. I was happy with the way my horse raced.”
Artistic Fella, a three-year-old of Pacific Fella – Everything's Easy, races for Joseph Alborano of New Egypt, New Jersey. He has New Jersey Sire Stakes and the $1 million Meadowlands Pace on his summer schedule.
