Benita Simmons
Benita Simmons is another woman in racing who is the backbone behind her successful husband, trainer Tom Simmons. Benita oversees the daily care of a large stable of horses conditioned by Tom in the central Illinois town of Springfield.
Benita is heavily involved in the harness racing industry, not only assisting Tom with the daily barn chores, but she also owns a piece of nearly every horse in the Simmons Stable. Some of her most notable charges include the top three-year-old of 2004 Enemy At The Gate. As well, she has held ownership on standouts such as Brass Door, Broadway Joker, Constant Change, and Decent Lawyer. Benita's genuine affection and concern for her horses and their welfare are overly apparent to everyone who knows her. |
